Class Overview

I have been teaching music lessons for over 15 years, teaching at Creativ Music and Deep Cove Music, as well as privately. I obtained a Diploma in Jazz Studies from Capilano College in 2005 and a Bachelors of Applied Music from Vancouver Community College in 2009. Having taught ages 6-80, it's my priority as a teacher to inspire and excite my students about music, whatever their tastes are. As such, I've taught everything from twelve bar blues, to Christmas carols, to jazz tunes, to Taylor Swift songs, to Neil Young chord progressions to Metallica riffs!

I have strong ear training skills and am able to learn songs students are interested in quickly, at times even writing them customized musical transcriptions for their skill level!

Since 2010 I've been on faculty most years at the WCAMS Summer Music Camps, where I've taught group beginner guitar lessons to adults and youth, as well as leading a sing-a-long session. I have also coached numerous Youth Pop/Rock Groups, helping young musicians learn to work as an ensemble, and learning to perform pop and rock songs together as a band.

As a performer, I have played guitar in everything from jazz combos, to rock bands, to musicals, to pop cover bands, to collaborations with electronic musicians, to a Beatles tribute band. I have toured across North America, Europe and China.

I am available to teach guitar, bass and beginner piano lessons in Vancouver, either from my home teaching studio in Hastings Sunrise or in some cases traveling to the homes of my students. I also teach Wednesdays at a home studio in Kitsilano. My standard rate is $50 for an hour lesson, with an additional travel charge if I am travelling to student's homes. Half hour and 45 minute lessons may be available in some cases, and rates may be negotiable for those with financial needs / low income individuals/families.
