Class Overview
Hi! I am Lisa, I am a professional pianist and composer. After I finished my bachelor's degree at Oberlin College, and my master's degree at the Juilliard School in solo piano performance, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in music composition and technology at UC Irvine.
I am a multi-style musician and composer, I play classical, jazz, do songwriting, produce electronic music, and score films and video games.
I've been teaching all ages of students for many years. My teaching style is personal and inspiring as I try to be creative to help my students on what can benefit their music study individually and design the best routine for each of their musical studying paths.
I am living in Orange County, California.
Lessons can take place at my studio or remotely online.
Venues that I have performed and given recitals are all over the world including Germany, France, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Canada, and the States such as the Kennedy Center in DC and Morgan Library in New York City, and many cities in China.
I have proficiency in many different aspects of music, so as my student, you can technically study any of the following with me: music theory, piano playing, songwriting, composition, screen scoring, and more.
Having a professional and experienced teacher makes huge difference in just a couple of lessons. No matter how old you are and how many experiences you have, or even if you are a total beginner, you will progress super fast and dramatically. I would only work with children older than 6 years old, no younger, that way I can start and prepare the students with the most authentic knowledge that they need to know and practice so later on, they will have a solid musical foundation.
However, I think it is also important and beneficial for adults to learn music as well because music is not just for children, it is for everybody. And you can learn so much faster. It is totally possible to have your own performing show after studying with me for several months. Be able to play a list of repertoires that you enjoy is a great accomplishment and joy to add to your life.
In terms of seriousness and goal, it will be up to the students. If they have a passion for pursuing music professionally, my 20 years of professional experience can guide them with ease and authenticity. If the students wish to enjoy the music and just learn it for fun, which I think is really important, I can also structure the lessons in a way that will feed their musical interests while having a more relaxed and mild approach. On the other hand, I am always trying to be friends with my students regardless of what's their age. Each one of us is a beautiful human being and music is about sharing beauty.

To beginning level students, I will suggest my students on what books or music they should have after the initial lesson. For students who already have some experience in the subject, please bring the books that you have worked to your first lesson.
It is very important to get a professional and proficient music teacher no matter how old you are and how much experiences you have. I love working with children above 5 years old, that way I can start and prepare the students with the most authentic knowledge that they need to know and practice so later on, they will have a solid basement of their music study. I also think it is very important for adults to learn music because music is not just for children, it is for everybody. Be able to play a list of repertoires that you enjoy listening is a great accomplishment and joy to add to your life. In terms of experience, it will be up to the students. If they have a passion for pursuing music more seriously or professionally, my 20 years of professional experience can guide them with ease and authenticity. If the students wish to enjoy the music and just learn it for fun, which I think is really important, I can also structure the lessons in a way that will feed their musical interests while having a more relaxed and inspiring approach. In general, I am always trying to be friends with my students regardless of what's their age. Each one of us is a beautiful human being and music is about sharing beauty.
