Hello! I’m Amanda

*Available to accept clients currently and am now booking for Summer Tutoring.*
I believe that teaching and learning is best done with empathy, trust, and a healthy sense of humor. My sense of humor combined with my kind, empathetic approach helps my students connect with me, and that connection skyrockets our learning journey and student progress! I hold three teaching certifications that compliment each other. I am an NYU and Providence College Graduate and am Orton Gillingham, Wilson, and Visualizing and Verbalizing trained. As a part of the Math Leadership Team where I am implementing innovative math teaching while being at the heart of advising others on student - centered approaches. I try to instill in my students the same sense of adventure and academic risk taking that led me to leadership. My willingness to try creative and evidenced based techniques helps them to take a leap and make an effort even if they are afraid of falling or failing.
I have worked with ages 6 - adult and understand how to relate and build a teaching rapport with every age and stage. As for my more technical and concrete teaching approach: I use individualized, specialized, multisensory instruction to help students learn to read and spell. I help older students to expand their vocabulary, comprehend texts, or write in their own unique voice. I have seen a student develop understanding of numeracy as well as helped students with algebra. Peter Liljedahl's Creating Thinking Classrooms approach has helped me to build upon my Math Instructional skills. I individualize our time to unique learning profiles, interests, and goals. However a typical session follows this format:
1.) A math or Literacy task to activate prior knowledge
2.) An interactive mini-lesson, followed by guided practice
3.) Independent practice with immediate teacher feedback.
4.) A brief review and reflection.
I look forward to hearing from you about how we can best collaborate towards your student's learning!
